This is Mercedes, a tortoise shell marked Persian. She is the Queen of the house. She was born on Dec. 1, 1997. She is a GUARD CAT! A strange dog came up to the front door and she growled at it and then tried to jump on it through the glass of the storm door. She kept growling until I went to see what she was doing and then kept on growling. She likes to chase lights from my watch as the sun hits it through the window, so every a.m. when the sun is out I play with her about 5 minutes letting her be the hunter that she is and catch the little spot of light. She is also the alarm clock and will let me know when it is time to get up in the morning and what time we ought to hit the sack at night.
Mercedes liked to play roll the log, or I mean rug, just like the guys do on those lumberjack shows. Except this log, er rug didn't move, anyway playing with the plastic was lots of fun.
Here is how Mercedes came to live with me. My ex daughter in law wanted to take me with her to a lady who raised persian kittens. She had one that was free and needed a special home. Once I saw this kitten that had club feet , I knew I had to have her. She was just 5 weeks old and ran around on the floor on her back ankles, with her little pads of her feet up in the air behind her. The lady had been working with her joints trying to help stretch the tendons,so the legs would turn the correct way. I took her to the vets and the lady there said she didn't think it would help. I kept working with her, tried to make it a game. Get her pumped up so she would push against my hand with her paws as if it were lots of fun. She started to put some weight on one paw and then slowly the other until she was not thumping around; but springing around, like a little mountain goat!
Mercedes has a favorite toy, a stuffed duck , that she beats the heck out of every so often. She even likes to hide behind plants that are on the floor and pounce on anyone that walks by. She has a nonstop purrrrrrrrr.
